Hi havia una vegada un llenyataire molt treballador es va presentar per una feina en un bosc. Veient la seva gran motivació i la seva energia, el van contractar de seguida.  El cap li va donar una destral i el va enviar a tallar arbres.  Quan va acabar el primter dia, el dedicat llenyataire havia aconseguit tallar 14 arbres, una xifra impressionant. L'home que era molt treballador i volia demostrar que podia fer-ho encara millor, al dia següent va sortir a batre el seu rècord. No obstant això, en acabar el dia, només va poder tallar12 arbres. Anaven passant els dies i el llenyataire s'esforçava per superar-se, però tot i gastar tanta energia, cada vegada tallava menys arbres.  Estava desesperat. La llegenda explica que una jove amb un vestit pel carrer (de vegades de núvia i altres de dòl) es manifesta davant dels viatgers a la vora dels camins, en general, prop d'una corba perillosa. Els demana a aquests que la portin, quan puja, es diu que transcorre un temps en absolut silenci fins que ella, misteriosament, desapareix del vehicle en moviment. Se sol comptar tan bon punt el viatger acaba assabentant-se que la dona havia mort en un accident o d'alguna forma tràgica. La versió que la vas veure amb vestit de noces afirma que va morir amb el seu nuvi. El propòsit de l'aparició varia de vegades, alerta el conductor sobre un revolt perillós, precisament aquell en què va morir, altres vegades causa la mort del conductor al no alertar--lo del perill de la corba.
